Enhance the Beauty of Your Smile
Veneers are thin pieces of durable, tooth-shaped porcelain that are placed over the surface of your teeth to eliminate cosmetic problems. They’re custom-made by a professional dental laboratory to ensure a natural appearance, creating a beautiful and attractive smile.
Reasons for Porcelain Veneers
At Healthy Chelsea Dental, we use porcelain veneers to correct the following dental problems:
- Crooked teeth
- Misshapen teeth
- Discolored or stained teeth
- Teeth that are too small or large
- Unwanted or uneven spaces
- Worn or chipped teeth
The Veneers Process
Getting veneers usually requires two visits to complete the process, with little or no anesthesia. Your treatment will consist of a few simple steps:
- The teeth are prepared by lightly buffing and shaping the surface to allow for the thickness of the veneer.
- A mold or impression of the teeth is taken and a shade (color) will then be chosen by you and the dentist.
- On the second visit, the teeth will be cleansed with special liquids to achieve a durable bond.
- Bonding cement is then placed between the tooth and veneer and a special light beam is used to harden and set the bond.
Following your procedure, you’ll receive care instructions for veneers. Proper brushing, flossing, and regular dental visits will all help your new veneers last.
Frequently Asked Questions
No, the veneers process isn’t painful. We’ll administer a local anesthetic to the areas where your veneers will be placed. You should only experience mild discomfort following the appointment, which can be treated with over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen or Advil, and a cold compress.
No, dental insurance doesn’t cover the cost of veneers. Dental insurance usually doesn’t cover cosmetic procedures, such as teeth whitening or veneers. Veneers aren’t considered medically necessary because their purpose is mostly aesthetic. However, you may be able to get a portion of your treatment covered depending on your plan and provider.
If your veneer falls off, call our office immediately at (212) 206-0513 to let us know. We’ll get an appointment for you as soon as possible and make your smile beautiful again by fixing your veneer.
In the meantime, put it in a small container to keep it safe so you can bring it to your appointment for re-application. We can either re-attach the veneer or suggest new ones if you’ve had your current veneers for a long time.
We recommend eating softer foods for the first few days while you adjust to your new bite. After a few weeks, there shouldn’t be any restrictions on the foods you can eat unless otherwise specified by one of our New York dentists.
The foods most commonly avoided by patients with porcelain veneers include: ice, hard candy, caramel, nuts, and popcorn. While you can still eat these foods, chewing them without caution increases the likelihood of damaging your veneers.
